British Columbia’s awe-inspiring natural beauty, together with our province’s diversity and the warmth of our people, make tourism in B.C. the success that it is today. Tourism is identified in Canada Starts Here: The B.C. Jobs Plan as a sector that will drive economic growth throughout the Province.
On Aug. 14, The Honourable Pat Bell, B.C.’s Minister of Jobs, Tourism and Innovation, shared insights from Gaining the Edge: A Five-year Strategy for Tourism in B.C. with The Vancouver Board of Trade. This strategy focuses on tourism products and markets that will allow B.C. to inspire and connect with an even greater number of visitors from around the world. Seizing this opportunity will require discipline, focus, innovation and a strengthened partnership between tourism businesses, organizations and all levels of government.
Bell discussed how tourism can impact business, both now and into the future. He also set goals for the strategy’s successful implementation, including increased economic growth, new business opportunities, and job creation across the province. The benefits of this success will extend far beyond the sector, as tourism enhances our province’s reputation as a premiere destination to visit, invest, work and live.
