International Relations

Our mission is to work in the enlightened interest of our members to promote, enhance and facilitate the development of the region as a Pacific centre for trade, commerce and travel. In the aftermath of September 11, 2001, The Board formed a committee to address the issues of border access and continental security. The Canada-United States Relations Committee has pursued a variety of aspects since then. The Board submitted a resolution on a NEXUS appeal process to the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in September 2009. The Board also worked with the Canadian Chamber of Commerce to prepare two reports on issues negatively affecting the working of the border and transportation, which was subsequently presented to both the Canadian and American governments. In addition, this year, the committee continued to work on worsening border issues such as the Buy America Program and easing some of the border and trade restrictions.
