Helijet takes Spirit of Vancouver® to new heights

If you look up in the skies over Vancouver, you'll probably catch a glimpse of the newest Spirit of Vancouver® logo. Helijet International, one of the newest Spirit of Vancouver corporate partners, recently unveiled its brand-new Spirit logo and colour scheme on one of its Sikorsky S-76 12-passenger helicopters.

With more than 200 flights per week, there's a good chance you will see the helicopter overhead or board it yourself the next time you fly.

Rick Hill, VP, marketing and product development, decided to take advantage of Helijet’s highly visible profile.

"We want all our passengers and everyone who sees our helicopter in flight to know that we’re proud Spirit of Vancouver partners and we’re proud Vancouverites," said Hill. "I think it’s a great-looking paint scheme. It looks good on our helicopter and shows that Helijet is happy to lend support to programs that promote community spirit in our city and across our region."

This is not the first time Helijet has changed its appearance during its 18-year history. With credits in more than 50 major film productions, Helijet’s aircraft have appeared on screen painted everything from military camouflage to schemes for fictional police departments and news channels. While these paint schemes are only temporary, Helijet intends to make its Spirit of Vancouver colours a permanent feature.

However, the new paint scheme will hardly have had time to dry before the helicopter began Helijet’s winter/spring schedule. On December 17, Helijet launched its successful seasonal Vancouver-Whistler service. Helijet’s fast, 30-minute Whistler service runs through April 17. Not only does it save passengers time, but provides a unique aerial perspective of some of the world’s most magnificent mountain scenery.

As the winter snow season reaches its peak, Hill is looking forward to another year of growth on the daily route. Last year, seat sales were up an impressive 133 per cent from the previous year.

"We’ve definitely enjoyed some success with our Whistler service in the previous year, and all signs are pointing to another good season for us. Passengers know that road conditions are always changing on the Sea-to-Sky highway, so they can count on Helijet to get them to Whistler when they need without worrying about driving. Our ground shuttle will even drop you off at your accommodation in Whistler, so there’s no need for your car," said Hill.

For travellers from Vancouver Island’s North Coast, Helijet will resume its seasonal Campbell River-Seattle service on May 5. Flying time on the 18-passenger Beech 1900D turboprop is a fast 50 minutes, with the comfort of a stand-up aisle, air conditioning and an on-board washroom - all at 500 kilometres per hour.

The daily service lands at Boeing Field, Seattle, close to the attractions of downtown Seattle. For travellers with international connections, Helijet’s free ground shuttle provides connections to Sea Tac International Airport.

Founded in 1986, Helijet International has grown to North America’s largest scheduled helicopter airline, winning numerous awards for customer service and safety excellence. Starting with just one aircraft, Helijet today employs 143 people and serves Vancouver, Victoria, Whistler, Campbell River and Seattle.
