Media Release March 8, 2006, Storyeum Storyeum: Travel back in time for spring break! Dinosaurs in Gastown exhibit features one of North America's best ever collections of dinosaur fossils and skeletons
Storyeum's popular Dinosaurs in Gastown exhibit will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. during spring break to give schoolchildren and budding archeologists a chance to explore one of North America's best-ever dinosaur exhibits. The stars of Dinosaurs in Gastown are two life-size animatronic dinosaurs built especially for Storyeum: a 30-foot-long Triceratops and a ferocious 50-foot-long Tyrannosaurus Rex. The Triceratops is currently on the road exploring the Lower Mainland and has visited more than 6,350 students at 40 schools since the exhibit opened in December. Also in the exhibit are rare 110 million-year-old prehistoric fossils of reptiles, plants, birds, insects and fish from the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods, as well as 11 complete dinosaur skeletons accompanied by dinosaur videos explaining how these gigantic creatures lived, ate and fought. Vancouver is one of only two stops for this exhibit in North America. Before coming to Vancouver, many of the fossils were on display in Montreal in early 2005. Also on at Storyeum is the historical theatrical adventure British Columbia LIVE Underground, which takes audiences on a memorable journey through B.C. history with spectacular sets and an original score by the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. Storyeum is open seven days a week, year-round, with British Columbia LIVE Underground and Dinosaurs in Gastown shows throughout the day (10 a.m. to 6 p.m.).
