Greek Day on Broadway 2006

Greek Day 2006

The Hellenic Canadian Congress of BC has been given approval for the Kitsilano Greek Day on Broadway to take place this year on Sunday, June 25, 2006. Last year's successful and long-awaited return of Greek Day saw over 50,000 people attend this wonderful cultural street festival.

Attractions this year include various demonstration booths, an expanded children’s zone with many free activities to participate in, and entertainment ranging from street entertainers to folk dancers. A free evening concert on the Main Stage will highlight the evening portion of the event, while the Boutari Wine Culinary Stage will feature some of the city's best Greek restaurateurs and epicureans cooking and sharing the secrets of some of their favourite recipes.

Nick Panos, chair of the event, says: "We are building from last year's success and trying to make the day even more enjoyable for people of all ages."

Greek Day is the grand finale party to Hellenic Cultural Week, which starts on June 16 and runs through to June 25. The week includes an ancient Greek tragedy theater production, a film festival, a lecture series, a musical gala and an art display.

Event organizer Jenny Siormanolakis says, "For our nine-hour event to be successful, we need and rely on approximately 150 volunteers to assist with crowd control, decorations, funsters and other key areas." Anyone interested in volunteering is asked to fill out an online application form at www.greekday.com or e-mail info@greekday.com.
