Get your spot in the Rogers Santa Claus Parade — November 19, 2006

A wonderful holiday tradition!

2006 Rogers Santa Claus Parade

It’s not looking a lot like Christmas just yet, but business and community groups that want to be part of the 2006 Rogers Santa Claus Parade on November 19 should apply now, because the parade’s 60 spots are filling fast!

The televised parade, which is produced by Rogers Video, Rogers Wireless and Rogers Radio Vancouver and has "The Spirit of Giving" as its theme, will feature 60 different bands, floats and community groups that will entertain crowds of up to 300,000 along Georgia and Howe Streets.

"We’re only in our third year and already the parade has become a family tradition as we head into the holiday season," explained Chuck van der Lee, president and CEO of Rogers Video. "Our success is a direct result of the community and corporate sponsors who take part and help provide the floats, bands and street entertainers that give the parade its colour and excitement as it makes its way along Georgia and Howe Streets."

2006 Rogers Santa Claus Parade

In true holiday spirit and Rogers Santa Claus Parade tradition, families will once again be encouraged to bring toys and food for the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society and Lower Mainland Christmas Bureau. Last year, 9,500 pounds of food and 2,300 toys were collected by parade volunteers.

Santa returns to downtown Vancouver at 1 p.m. on Sunday, November 19 for the third annual Rogers Santa Claus Parade. For parade participant packages and general information, please contact Beth Thompson at 604-646-3573.

British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) provides great lottery, casino and bingo entertainment, fun experiences and the chance to win prizes. We also generate significant net income for government programs that benefit British Columbians every day.

Each year, BCLC net income is distributed to government to benefit programs for health, education, social, community, charitable and municipal purposes. Government directs a significant portion to consolidated revenue and the Health Special Account.

Some 6,000 charitable and community organizations share in the profits from gaming revenue through community gaming grants. These groups work to provide valuable community services in the areas of arts, culture and sport, public safety, human and social services, parent advisory committees in schools, and major capital projects.

Since 1985, more than $9 billion in BCLC net income has been generated for the public good.
