The Vancouver Whitecaps director of Soccer Operations, Bob Lenarduzzi, is pleased to announce today that soccer fans of all ages are invited to cheer on the Whitecaps at the RIO on Broadway this Saturday, September 30, at 4 p.m. The RIO will host a special live broadcast of the Vancouver Whitecaps berth in the United Soccer Leagues (USL) First Division Championship.

The first-time finalists Whitecaps will meet the three-time champion Rochester Raging Rhinos in a one-game showdown at PAETAC Park in Rochester, New York. The match will be broadcast for Vancouver fans live at the RIO on Broadway courtesy of FOX Sports World Canada, the rights holders for the championship final. There will be prizes and giveaways, and fans are encouraged to show their Whitecaps sprit by wearing blue and white.

Saturday’s event is being made possible by HUB International Insurance Brokers, a premier partner of the Whitecaps.

"We’re excited to have the chance to invite our loyal season ticket holders and all of our fans to celebrate the USL final at the RIO on Broadway," said Lenarduzzi. "It’s only appropriate that the site of Soccerio on Commercial Drive earlier this year be the meeting place for our fans this weekend. We appreciate the support of HUB International and the RIO on Broadway, and look forward to a thrilling match between two quality teams on Saturday."

The RIO on Broadway was the flagship venue for Soccerio on Commercial Drive, the month-long celebration of the FIFA World Cup, which raised $16,326 for SOS Children’s Villages, the official FIFA charity. Soccerio on Commercial Drive was presented as a partnership between the RIO on Broadway, the Vancouver Whitecaps FC and the Commercial Drive Business Society.

"We were proud to re-launch the new RIO on Broadway in May of this year, and we were excited to host Vancouver’s World Cup soccer fans for Soccerio on Commercial Drive," said Mukesh Goyal, director of the Vancouver heritage theatre originally opened in 1938. "It was a great success and we’re keen to welcome Caps fans to celebrate as one here on Saturday."

With the RIO on Broadway's capacity at 458, admission will be by minimum $5 donation to KidSport, which provides sports opportunities and equipment for young B.C. children who otherwise would not have the chance to play organized sport. Tickets will be available beginning Wednesday, September 27, at 6:30 p.m. at the RIO on Broadway box office at 1660 East Broadway. Fans can pick up their tickets by donation Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and, if still available, on game day Saturday beginning at 3 p.m. PT.
