Hellenic Cultural Month and Greek Day 2007

Greek Month 2007

Peter Capadouca, the new chairman of the 2007 Hellenic Cultural Month and Greek Day 2007, is pleased to announce that June 2007 is officially Hellenic Cultural Month in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia, and there’s more than just a "hint of Bouzouki playing in the air" as plans for this year’s event are well under way.

The big news so far for 2007 is the addition of Krinos Foods Inc. as title sponsor of both the Hellenic Cultural Month and Greek Day 2007. Krinos has just expanded its operations in British Columbia and its affiliation with Greek Day is substantial. Says Nick Panos, one of the organizers: "Krinos Foods will contribute immensely to the interactive activities at Greek Day by providing various demonstrations and education on Mediterranean products and the Mediterranean lifestyle."

As part of these activities, Krinos will set up an authentic olive oil-pressing demonstration that will show how olive oil is made, distilled and bottled. This is the first of its kind in western Canada, and constitutes one of the many aspects of Krinos’ presence at the event.

For 2007, Greek Day has adopted a new theme: Healthy Mind, Healthy Body and Healthy World. This theme has been carefully selected based on the concept that the ancient Greek ideal for a truly rounded individual consisted of a healthy and harmonious balance between the physical, intellectual and spiritual self as part of Mother Nature. This theme also became an obvious choice considering society’s new emphasis on personal health as well as the health of the planet.

Greek Day is going to welcome and delight the anticipated 80,000-plus audience with a much improved entertainment structure combining two full stages as well as a newly designed cooking demonstration tent. The event will showcase a more developed Hellenic Cultural Tent with numerous activities including Greek games, spices and ancient recipes used to improve health and well-being. Street entertainment, children activities, teen activities, fabulous foods and more people comforts are just part of the areas that have been expanded for 2007 to ensure that attendees take full advantage of a solid day’s worth of free family entertainment.

Hellenic Cultural month runs throughout the month of June 2007 at various locations in Vancouver, and Greek Day 2007 is scheduled for Sunday, June 24 on West Broadway between Blenheim and Macdonald Street.
