Media Release Vancouver Aquarium Marine Science Centre, July 19, 2003 Baby beluga whale turns one! Aquarium celebrates Tuvaq's birthday
The Vancouver Aquarium Marine Science Centre invited media and visitors to join in the celebration on Sunday, July 20, 2003 at 11 a.m. to mark Tuvaq's first birthday. Tuvaq was born just after 6:30 p.m. on July 20, 2002. He is currently sharing the Arctic Canada habitat with his mother Aurora, his "auntie" Allua and his sister Qila, who was born at the Aquarium in 1995. Qila will be celebrating her eighth birthday on Wednesday, July 23, 2003. The festivities also included a performance from the Aquarium's hit band, the Sea Notes, and birthday cake for everyone. Aquarium staff also chose one child during each beluga show on Sunday to participate in a Beluga Encounter, a unique opportunity that allows visitors to assist the animal care staff in a training and feeding session.
