The Bell City Chase kicked off in Vancouver on May 15, 2004, with nearly 200 teams of two participating. Over 80 per cent of the teams completed the course, with the winners finishing in an amazing three hours and nine minutes (only 10 teams finished in less than four hours).

Spirit of Vancouver’s (SOV) team came in a proud 36th place after navigating the city from the Plaza of Nations to the Stanley Theatre and Chinatown to Stanley Park, facing mental, physical and even edible challenges.

The day started with a scavenger hunt, where participants had to collect 10 of 15 items including a Starbucks cup, a stamp, a bar of soap, an ice cube and a feather.

Once participants had their 10 items back at the Plaza of Nations, the race began, and teams had six hours to reach 10 of 15 checkpoints across the city, complete the challenge at each checkpoint and then make their way back to the finish line at the Plaza of Nations.

The 2004 National Bell City Chase Series is comprised of eight regional events in some of Canada's largest cities: Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City and Halifax.

According to organizers, the City of Vancouver "was the most co-operative and easy city to work with than any of the other seven cities," proving this city is indeed full of spirit.

The winning team from each event will be invited to compete in The Bell City Chase National Championships, held in a secret location to be announced on September 10, 2004, giving competitors only two days to prepare!

The National Championships will be an eight- to 10-hour adventure that will take participants out of their element and truly test their resourcefulness in unfamiliar territory.

In addition to the national prizes, there was a stack of swag distributed to Bell City Chase participants, including Bell ExpressVu Satellite packages, Bell Mobility cell phones, Ryders sunglasses, Running Room prize packs and much more!
