20th ANNUAL ECONOMIC OUTLOOK
GLOBAL FINANCIAL PANDEMIC

Dr. Sherry Cooper, Chief Economist, BMO Capital Markets

The global economy is in the midst of the most pervasive financial crisis in a generation, which has destroyed untold sums of wealth in housing and financial assets and has driven the U.S. economy into recession.

Canada is in better shape, but the economy is feeling the heat from the U.S. and global recession. On the policy front, both the Bank of Canada and the Federal Reserve have already cut rates and will keep them low throughout the year.

Along with their counterparts around the world, the major central banks are in easing mode and will continue to pump liquidity into financial markets to help ease the credit crunch.

But when will the dust settle? And when it does, what can we expect?

Against this backdrop, Dr. Sherry Cooper will discuss the economic and financial outlook for Canada and the U.S. for 2009.

Then, as we face the prospects of 2009, our panel of experts will weigh in with their perspectives on the provincial economy, the real estate sector and how Canada-U.S. relations will develop with the inauguration of President Barack Obama.
