Despite the current downturn, the B.C. forest sector remains one of the Province's biggest economic engines. The sector's fundamental resilience and strength is driven by a world-class forest resource, talented workforce and innovation.
Building off these strengths, the Government of British Columbia is working with industry and communities to dramatically expand trade with China , foster bioenergy, harness more economic gains from growing trees, and -- through B.C.'s Wood First Policy -- dramatically increase the demand for wood in commercial, institutional and industrial applications.
To kick off National Forest Week, The Honourable Pat Bell, Minister of Forests and Range and Minister Responsible for the Integrated Land Management Bureau, will outline what the government will do over the next four years to strengthen the sector and help it reach new markets and new heights.
