  Economic Outlook

 LAST CHANCE TO REGISTER

Speaker:

Keynote speaker: Don Drummond, Senior Vice-President and Chief Economist, TD Bank Financial Group

Topic:

21st ANNUAL ECONOMIC OUTLOOK
WHAT COMES AFTER THE ‘GREAT RECESSION?’

Don Drummond

Evidence is mounting that the world’s economy is beginning to recover from the Great Recession. But problems will linger from the recession for many years.

Banks in many countries will need to re-capitalize and deleverage. Households, particularly in the United States, will need to shore up their savings. Governments at all levels must turn their attention to reining in ballooning deficits.

In this environment, Canada can not expect a strong, automatic lift from the world economy, and especially not from the developed economies. Canada's strong financial industry will be an asset, but the country must overcome its poor productivity record in order to succeed. Against this backdrop, TD Banks Don Drummond will discuss the economic and financial outlook for Canada and the U.S. for 2010.

Then, as we face the prospects of 2010, our panel of experts will weigh in with their perspectives on the provincial economy, the labour market and how Canada-U.S. relations fared during President Obamas first year in office.
