Regional Transportation Task Force

The Regional Transportation Task Force deals with matters affecting the movement of goods, services and people within the metropolitan area and affecting the regional transportation gateways such as the ports, airports, roads and road links between the region and other areas.

Together with other major non-government stakeholders in regional transportation, The Board carried out substantial deliberations on the financing problems facing TransLink and issued a report on this subject that helped to provide an intermediate solution to TransLink’s serious financial situation. The Board has also issued a report on the governance of TransLink. Regional Transportation Task Force and Urban Infrastructure Task Force

TransLink governance review
March 22, 2007 — The Vancouver Board of Trade commends the B.C. The current governance arrangement needs to be substantially altered, as the panel has reported. Read The Board's letter to The Hon. Kevin Falcon, Minister of Transportation.

South Fraser Perimeter Road environmental assessment
December 13, 2006 — The South Fraser Perimeter Road would provide a vital link between the expanded Roberts Bank container terminal and parts of the region not readily accessible from the Highway 99/91 Freeway system, and would be an important part of the Pacific Gateway. Read The Board's letter to the South Fraser Perimeter Road Project.

Downtown Transportation

The Urban Transportation Task Force operates under the auspices of the Community Affairs Committee, focusing on transportation issues within the City of Vancouver. Since the formation of the Greater Vancouver Regional Transportation Authority (TransLink), this task force has also monitored and, together with the Regional Transportation Task Force, has provided input to the activities and plans of TransLink. In the past year, a major part of the work of the task force has involved the proposed new Downtown Transportation Plan being prepared by the City of Vancouver.

Replacement of parking site tax
April 25, 2007 — Several weeks ago we wrote to you expressing our concern with respect to the recommendation of the TransLink Governance Review Panel on how to replace the parking site tax. It has been suggested to us that the concerns we expressed in that letter might not be reflected in the draft legislation we understand will soon be introduced in the legislature to alter the governance of TransLink. Read The Board's letter to The Hon. Kevin Falcon.

TransLink taxation
March 29, 2007 — It is important that the replacement of the parking site tax should be equitably distributed throughout the Greater Vancouver region. The TransLink Governance Review Panel report recommended that the equivalent net revenue should be raised though TransLink’s property tax levy from commercial, industrial and utility property classes. Read The Board's letter to The Hon. Kevin Falcon, Minister of Transportation.
