Green coupon book goes mobile

Green Zebra guide, the coupon book that brought us "local savings for sustainable living," is now offering savings to the mobile masses thanks to a recent partnership with digital media giant 3rdwhale.

Green Zebra’s brand new mobile platform allows anyone with web access on their cell phone — locals and tourists alike — to download coupons for sustainable businesses in Greater Vancouver.

"Paperless coupons are a perfect fit for us," said Rebecca Fry, Green Zebra’s business development manager. "They’re easier on the environment and they give consumers the freedom to choose the coupons they want and use coupons more than once."

3rdwhale founder Boyd Cohen points out that over the next few years, more than 200 million mobile users worldwide are expected to redeem coupons via mobile phones. 3rdwhale’s mobile application is live in over 20 cities across North America, meaning thousands of people who already use the application elsewhere will have access to Green Zebra coupons while visiting Vancouver.

"In the midst of Vancouver’s push to showcase itself as one of the greenest cities in the world, innovative mobile solutions like this one can really set us apart," says Cohen. "The idea is to bring exposure to green businesses, reward consumers who put sustainability first and continue with Green Zebra’s mandate to raise money for the TB Vets Charitable Foundation."

What does this mean for the green-striped book currently gracing store counters and community fundraisers? "The book isn’t going anywhere," says Fry. "We know that many of our participants still want the benefits of promotion through printed coupons and we’re committed to the sustainable printing practices the guide is known for. Our mobile platform simply offers businesses the opportunity to capture a new demographic at the same time."

Mobile coupons are now available at www.thegreenzebra.ca. Businesses interested in being included can contact Rebecca Fry at 604-734-0309 or rebecca@greenzebraguide.ca.
