Sounding Board March 2003  Vol 42 # 9

Techvibes.com unites Canada’s technology community

While the technology sector has been bruised and battered in recent memory, one would never know it from Vancouver-based Techvibes Media Inc. and their portal www.techvibes.com. Started as a part-time endeavour in December 2001, Techvibes has now evolved into Canada’s fastest growing online technology community. As a social network for members or a source of targeted new leads for sponsors, the concept is making big waves throughout businesses all over the tech sector.

"Techvibes focuses on uniting professionals, improving communication channels throughout the industry and transforming online relationships into tangible results for our clients and membership," says Mike Schwarz, co-founder and president of the company. "We are excited about the positive feedback that we are receiving from our members on a daily basis."

The emergence of Techvibes reinforces the importance of networking and its role in building your business, no matter what your sector. Strong networking channels and industry ties are one of the driving forces behind growing your business. Detailed personal and company profiles, a complete private messaging system, free job boards and controlled filtering over the varied membership base are just some of the features that have sparked a tidal wave of new users.

These members have also provided a very positive return rate for Techvibes sponsorship subscribers. With Techvibes containing relevant and up-to-date information on many types of technology solutions and ideas, business people from all sectors are finding the site extremely useful.

The ebb and flow of interaction between Techvibes members and sponsors does not simply begin and end in front of the computer screen. Monthly networking parties at trendy downtown locations derive a substantial part of the buzz that has made Techvibes a recognizable and desirable brand. The events have been truly dynamic, with live event streaming, elevator pitch contests for aspiring entrepreneurs, featured company exhibit booths and up to 600 people in attendance each time. Special guests are also prone to drop in, as was the case in April 2002, when federal minister Allan Rock stopped by for an event, or in August 2002, when B.C. Premier Gordon Campbell, participated in one of the pitch contests in front of 500 attendees in the heart of downtown Vancouver.

Already established in Vancouver, Calgary, Montreal and Halifax, Techvibes has distinct plans for the rest of Canada with Victoria, Edmonton, Toronto and Ottawa already on the radar for expansion.
