The simplest and fastest thing a business can do to increase search engine rankings is to add a blog to its website, according to search engine optimization (SEO) expert Stephen Jagger. "Blogging gives your business a personality, and it is the easiest way to continuously add content to your site," Jagger said at the first Vancouver Board of Trade Managers’ Toolbox of 2009.

These days, it’s not good enough to just have a website; it’s vital that your site is being ranked well and appearing as one of the top ten results on online search engines like Google.

So, how do you get and stay listed in Google, and what do search engines look for on your website?

At this session, Jagger, the president of Reachd.com, an SEO training company, provided strategies and practical steps businesses can take to optimize their websites for top ranking in search engines.

In addition to constantly updating your site with fresh content (through the use of a blog, for example), Jagger suggested focussing on the use of keyword phrases in your website content, increasing your inbound links from other sites and using social media (such as Facebook and Twitter) to drive traffic to your site.
