Board director Tina Osen recognized with Women of Influence Award

Tina OsenTina Osen, director on The Vancouver Board of Trade board of directors and on the Women’s Leadership Circle Advisory Council, was presented with the Women of Influence Award Nov. 18, 2009 at the Sutton Hotel as part of The Deloitte Women of Influence Luncheon Series taking place across Canada.

A Woman of Influence is defined as an authentic leader, an inspiring role model, an extraordinary achiever, a catalyst for change, who is engaged in life and is publicly recognized.

“This year we wanted to use the women of influence podium to recognize local heroes,” said Carolyn Lawrence, president, Women of Influence Inc. “These women are champions in their communities, families and corporations, and their contribution deserves the recognition and support of this audience.”

Osen, who is president and chief executive officer for HUB International Insurance Brokers’ Greater Vancouver operations, was given the award along with the likes of Dr. Gayla Rogers, Dean and Professor, Faculty of SocialWork, University of Calgary and Cheryl Ann Webster, Artist and Speaker, Beautiful Women Project, Ottawa with awards also given in Montreal, Halifax, Edmonton, Winnipeg and Waterloo.

Women of Influence Inc. has produced the nationwide Luncheon Series since 1994, profiling the most accomplished women who share their success story to inspire and connect likeminded professionals. The series has profiled over 200 of the highest-powered and most recognized women in Canada including Kim Campbell; former Prime Minister of Canada, Pamela Wallin, journalist and former Consul General to New York State, and Heather Reisman; CEO of Indigo Books.

Osen currently oversees 14 offices and 300 employees. She joined the Hub Group of Companies in 1994, and has over 17 years of insurance experience.

Under her leadership over the past 9 years, Hub International’s Greater Vancouver operations have grown from $170 million in sales to just shy of $400 million, which has allowed the brokerage to consistently assume a position as one of the top three performing insurance brokerages throughout Hub International’s North American operations.

Osen’s experience has allowed her to serve as a mentor for the Forum of Women Entrepreneurs in 2005 and 2006, and she is currently a mentor for the first formal Mentor Program within Hub International’s group of 4500 employees. Tina has also received the Hub International Chairman’s Award for 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007, which is the highest honour available to a president within the organization reflecting their exemplary financial performance and leadership.

Outside of her duties with Hub International, Osen is a member of the Insurance Council of British Columbia, an organization whose mandate is to provide a level of protection to the public regarding the sale of insurance products and services, for which she serves on their disciplinary review committees. She is membership chairperson for the Young Presidents Organization as part of the Vancouver Chapter’s Executive Team for the 2009-2010 year. Most recently, Tina has become part of the Net Works Cabinet, founded by the Vancouver Whitecaps Soccer Foundation to promote and support female athletes in BC.

Tina’s experience and dedication to her clients, Hub International, and the insurance and business community at large have made her a significant leader and mentor within the Hub Group of Companies.
