Topic:

INVESTING WITH HEART - Creating your field of dreams: Vancouver Canadians Baseball Club

There are many ways to look at business investment – in-depth analysis, return-on-investment calculations, revenue models – but when Jake Kerr and Jeff Mooney set out to purchase the only Single A Baseball Club in Canada - something else came into play.

They followed their heart.

A project close to the heart creates different demands and its success has different measures. Transitioning ownership of a Baseball Club from a childhood dream to reality and business success takes careful planning and a willingness to learn from both mistakes and accomplishments.

The Creating your Field of Dreams Panel:

Jake Kerr

Jake Kerr, Managing Partner and Majority Owner, Vancouver Canadians Baseball Club, is a recipient of the Order of Canada and the Order of British Columbia and is Managing Partner of Lignum Forest Products LLP, a wood distribution and trading company and Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Lignum Investments Ltd, a privately-held investment company

Andy Dunn

Andy Dunn, President and General Manager, Vancouver Canadians, has been in baseball operations for the Washington Nationals and Florida Marlins. He helped transform RFK Stadium in Washington, DC into a MLB-ready facility and was awarded the Bob Stower Minor League Baseball award in 2002 and named Florida State League Executive of the Year in both 1999 and 2000

Terry McKaig

Terry McKaig, UBC Baseball Coach, has been the head coach of the UBC Thunderbirds for 11 seasons. Under McKaig’s guidance, ten UBC players have been drafted into Major League Baseball, most notably Jeff Francis of the Colorado Rockies

Jim Robson

Jim Robson, Veteran Sportscaster, was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1992 and the BC Sports Hall of Fame in 2000. Considered one of Canada’s premier sports broadcasters, Jim has covered sports since 1952. Jim started covering baseball in Vancouver in 1956 with the Vancouver Mounties
