VANCOUVER, B.C. — The Greater Vancouver Board of Trade President and CEO, Bridgitte Anderson, has issued a statement in response to the appointment of Vince Ready as a special mediator in the transit labour dispute:

“We welcome the appointment of Vince Ready as special mediator by the provincial government. Mr. Ready’s credentials are well demonstrated, and the appointment conveys the seriousness of the dispute’s economic impact.

In the two days services were shut down, we heard from countless businesses of the economic harm resulting from 300,000 people that use the bus and SeaBus not being able to get to and from work and move effectively around the region. We call on the leadership of CUPE 4500 to publicly commit that there will be no further disruptions to services during the mediation process.

We urge both parties to find an agreement that restores confidence in our transit system and protects the long-term financial viability of transit services in the region.”
