Pay Transparency in B.C.: What Employers and Employees Need to Know

Just over a year ago, the Government of British Columbia introduced the Pay Transparency Act, setting clear expectations for employers to be transparent with job applicants and employees about compensation. These new laws require employers to follow specific guidelines on what they can ask candidates, what information must be included in job postings, and the completion of mandatory reporting.

Join Sam Tecle of Gowling WLG for a comprehensive breakdown of these requirements and their impact on employers and employees. This session will cover answers to common questions, including:

  • Can employers inquire about an applicant's compensation history?
  • What details should (and shouldn’t) be listed in a job posting?
  • What is a pay transparency report, and what are the submission requirements? What happens if reports are filed incorrectly?
  • Are employers permitted to enforce confidentiality around employee compensation, and can they apply disciplinary actions?
