VANCOUVER, B.C. —Today, Premier John Horgan and Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry announced the implementation of the B.C. Vaccine Card, which will be required for certain activities, including both indoor and outdoor dining, sporting events, and organized indoor events starting Sept.13.

This announcement provides much-needed clarity for businesses making decisions around protecting the health and safety of staff and customers, many of which are struggling to manage the economic impacts of the pandemic including labour and supply shortages.

“We welcome clarity on the types of businesses and activities that will require vaccine certification. The B.C. Vaccine Card can provide certainty for businesses to operate safely, while providing an incentive to get vaccinated,” said Bridgitte Anderson, President and CEO of the Greater Vancouver Board of Trade. “It’s imperative that the provincial government works closely with business owners to ensure a seamless transition to the B.C. Vaccine Card, one that protects front-line staff, ensures the technology is widely accessible and available, and is compatible with similar efforts across the country.”

“The government should also provide additional clarity and guidance to businesses, especially small businesses, about enforcement of the new public health order and in understanding the rights-based considerations and the legal landscape for implementing vaccination status requirements among employees. Vaccines are both safe and effective and we encourage everyone to receive their first or second dose in order to protect themselves and their community,” concluded Anderson.

More information can be found on the B.C Government's website.
