GVBOT Commends Canada-wide Direct-to-Consumer Alcohol Sales Agreement

VANCOUVER, B.C. — Today, Canada’s premiers announced that several provinces will introduce direct-to-consumer (DTC) alcohol sales, a significant step toward reducing interprovincial trade barriers and strengthening Canada’s domestic economy. In response, Bridgitte Anderson, President and CEO of the Greater Vancouver Board of Trade, released the following statement:
"Eliminating barriers that restrict the direct sale of Canadian wine, beer, cider, and spirits across provincial borders will help businesses grow, expand consumer choice, and strengthen economic resilience across the country. Enabling producers to reach customers across Canada will create new opportunities for businesses, particularly small and medium-sized producers, while supporting jobs and investment in communities from coast to coast. At a time of ongoing trade uncertainty and renewed tariff threats from the United States, it is more important than ever that Canada remove unnecessary barriers within our own borders.
The Greater Vancouver Board of Trade has long advocated for reducing interprovincial trade barriers. We commend the swift provincial leadership for advancing direct-to-consumer alcohol sales and encourage all governments to continue pursuing broader internal trade reforms that make it easier for Canadian businesses to sell, invest, and grow across the country. By building a more integrated national economy, Canada will be better positioned to withstand external pressures, diversify opportunities, and strengthen its economic future.
We look forward to seeing the Government of British Columbia fulfill their commitment to implement DTC for all types of alcohol in February 2027."
