GVBOT Welcomes Federal Productivity Mega Deduction

VANCOUVER, B.C. — Following the Prime Minister's announcement of a new Productivity Mega Deduction, Bridgitte Anderson, President and CEO of the Greater Vancouver Board of Trade, has released the following statement:

"The federal government's new Productivity Mega Deduction is a gamechanger. Immediate expensing for most asset types is a significant and positive change. It will make it more attract to invest in equipment, technology, infrastructure, and other productive assets, and strengthen the business case for companies to grow and build in Canada.

"Canada is facing a defining economic moment. Productivity growth has lagged, business investment has fallen, and uncertainty in international markets continues to challenge businesses across the country. At the same time, Canada has enormous strengths: a highly skilled workforce, abundant resources, world-class research capacity, and growing opportunities in sectors that will shape the future economy.

"Our Major Projects Report demonstrates the scale of the opportunity before us. Across British Columbia, we have identified over $200 billion in planned and proposed projects in British Columbia. These investments have the potential to strengthen supply chains, improve productivity, expand trade capacity, and create economic opportunities across the country. The challenge is not a lack of opportunity. It is ensuring Canada remains a competitive place to invest.

"We urge all levels of government, including the B.C. government, to demonstrate a similar resolve to move to make Canada a better place to invest and earn a living.”
