GVBOT Welcomes LNG Canada Phase 2 Expansion

VANCOUVER, B.C.
— The Greater Vancouver Board of Trade applauds this morning’s announcement that LNG Canada has decided to proceed with Phase 2 of its Kitimat export facility, doubling production capacity, and reinforcing British Columbia's role as a critical gateway connecting Canadian resources to global markets.

The decision represents one of the largest private-sector investments in Canadian history and advances a project designated by the federal government as a Project of National Significance. LNG Canada estimates Phase 2 could generate more than $50 billion in government revenues over the life of the project and support thousands of additional construction and supply-chain jobs across British Columbia and Canada, creating benefits that extend far beyond the project site.

"As Canada works to diversify its trade relationships and strengthen economic resilience, LNG Canada Phase 2 represents exactly the kind of investment our country needs," said Bridgitte Anderson, President and CEO of the Greater Vancouver Board of Trade. " LNG Canada Phase 2 will create lasting economic opportunities, strengthen our export capacity, and demonstrate what is possible when governments, Indigenous partners, and industry work together to advance nation-building projects."

The LNG opportunity in British Columbia is substantial. With this announcement today, projects already under construction, and projects under consideration, we can become a top global exporter of LNG. Countries want to buy Canadian. Our partners are looking for stable, reliable, and responsible suppliers of energy, and we are uniquely positioned to meet that demand through direct access to fast-growing markets across the Indo-Pacific.

In our Building for Growth: Driving Investment in B.C.'s Future report, we identified more than $230 billion in potential major project investments across sectors including LNG and energy infrastructure, clean energy, critical minerals, and trade-enabling infrastructure. Improving permitting efficiency, accelerating Indigenous economic participation, and strengthening B.C.'s investment competitiveness to help bring these projects forward will build a more diverse, thriving economy that positions B.C. to chart its own path for the future.
