Ratified port labour deal is welcome, long term stability needed
For Immediate Release
VANCOUVER, B.C. — In response to the ratification of a new four-year collective agreement between British Columbia Maritime Employers Association and the International Longshore and Warehouse Union Ship and Dock Foremen Local 514, Bridgitte Anderson, President and CEO of the Greater Vancouver Board of Trade, has issued the following statement:
“The best deals are those made at the bargaining table, and it is positive to have stability through 2027.
That said, the disruptions of the past years have seen over $19 billion in trade disrupted and our reputation as a reliable trading partner diminished.
It is critical that the federal government act on the forthcoming recommendations of Vince Ready’s Industrial Inquiry Commission to ensure certainty and stability in our supply chains, and to drive economic growth in advance of the next round of bargaining in just 17 months.
Now more than ever, we need to be clear eyed about our need for trade diversification and to be a reliable trading partner.”
